Which are the best neighbourhoods in Langley BC? Well, that depends on what you’re looking for! There are pros and cons to every neighbourhood. In this post, we will try to give you a better understanding of the main appeal of each area. Langley can be divided up into seven different neighbourhoods. Aldergrove, Brookswood, Murrayville, Willoughby, Walnut Grove, Fort Langley, and the City of Langley. For the purpose of this post, we will not go over the areas in between these neighbourhoods, as they are made up of mostly rural farms and acreages or industrial land.

Aldergrove

Best Neighbourhood in Langley BC: For long-term growth and community development

Aldergrove is on the eastern edge of the Township of Langley. It is a mix of rural, residential and business use. In the past few years, the neighbourhood has started to undergo rapid revitalization led by the building of the Aldergrove Credit Union Community Centre (ACUCC) in 2018. The ACUCC features an impressive outdoor waterpark and swimming pool, an ice arena, and a gym. Other notable amenities in Aldergrove are the Greater Vancouver Zoo and the Twilight Drive-In movie theatre, making this neighbourhood a good fit for young families. Aldergrove also has the Lynden/Aldergrove Border Crossing, allowing easy access to the United States.

Aldergrove has some of the cheapest detached homes in Langley. It also provides older yet affordable two-storey townhomes. Expanding on the redevelopment of Aldergrove is the new Aldergrove Town Center. This project is in Aldergrove’s downtown core. It is three, six-storey buildings with retail/restaurant space on the ground floor and residential uses above and a 10-storey building with residential and public parking. The project expects to complete in 2026. You can read more about it if you click here.

Brookswood

Best Neighbourhood in Langley BC: For large single-family home lots

Brookswood is located in southwestern Langley and is known for its natural parkland and tall trees. Although primarily residential, the Brookswood-Fernridge area is home to Campbell Valley Park, which boasts many walking and horse-riding trails. In Brookswood, there is a disc golf course in Passive Park open to the public. The area also has a BMX track and skate park next to the newly renovated Rec centre with a curling rink and ice arena, which is also home to a steakhouse and a neighbourhood pub. There is also Brookswood village, which hosts several restaurants, an animal clinic and medical centers.

The residential real estate in Brookswood-Fernridge is virtually all detached homes. Many of these homes are four bedrooms and three bathrooms on large 10,000 sqft lots, making it one of the most spacious neighbourhoods in Langley. These homes often have suites in the basement which can be a mortgage helper. The Brookswood-Fernridge area has recently seen new construction of detached homes in the Fernridge area. In the Brookwood-Fernridge community plan, some attached townhomes/condos may be on the horizon in the southern part of the community.

Murrayville

Best Neighbourhood in Langley BC: For those looking to retire or downsize

One of Langley’s most historic neighbourhoods, Murrayville is home to Langley’s Hospital, the Regional Airport, and the largest RCMP detachment in Langley. Being close to the hospital, medical buildings and large retirement homes, Murrayville naturally attracts a more senior demographic than Langley’s other neighbourhoods. Some of Murrayville’s amenities include the W.C. Blair wave pool, the Derek Doubleday Arboretum, and the five corners intersection. The five corners feature a bed & breakfast, a coffee shop and a bakery.

While settlers arrived in Murrayville in the 1870s, it wasn’t until the 1980s that it started developing on a larger scale. Murrayville has a solid blend of condos, townhomes, and detached homes. The area is quite walkable and has multiple parks and playgrounds throughout the neighbourhood.

Willoughby

Best Neighbourhood in Langley BC: For pre-sales and those looking to buy newer homes

The Willoughby area has seen an explosion of growth over the last 15 years with its population becoming the most populated neighbourhood in Langley. This growth is highlighted by the many new condo and townhome developments. In Willoughby, you are close to the main shopping centres in Langley. This includes the Willowbrook mall and large chain stores such as Costco, Walmart, and Home Depot. Willoughby also boasts the Langley Events Centre, a large multipurpose sports facility that features a 5000-seat arena, where the Vancouver Giants of the WHL play. Located south of the Trans-Canada Highway, Willoughby is a good fit for those who commute into the Metro Vancouver area.

With all the recent and ongoing development, Willoughby has become one of the most attractive neighbourhoods for first-time home buyers and young families. This is partly due to the large selection of move-in ready homes in various price ranges and sizes. Willoughby is where the first high rises in Langley will be. The Towers is a new development featuring 34-storey and 26-storey buildings with new townhomes in the surrounding area. To learn more about this new development, click here.

Due to its desirable location, homes here are usually a bit pricier than in other neighbourhoods in Langley. Most of the homes in Fort Langley are detached. Most of the townhomes and condos were built in the late 2000s in the development of Bedford Landing.

City of Langley

Best Neighbourhood in Langley BC: For first-time home buyers looking to enter the market

The City of Langley is its own municipality, separating it from all the other neighbourhoods mentioned above that reside in The Township of Langley. In 1955 Langley’s central business area separated from the then-rural parts of Langley Township after rising tensions between the business and farming communities. The City of Langley centres around the Fraser highway one-way. An area filled with shops and stores as it was previously Langley’s business centre throughout the mid-20th century. This area is also home to the Cascades Casino, which also provides entertainment and a conference center. The anticipated development in The City of Langley is in transportation. With the SkyTrain expected to extend from Surrey to 203rd st. The station at 203rd st is estimated to complete in 2028.

The City of Langley provides some of the most affordable options for people looking to get into the market.
